Excita, Dómine, corda nostra ad præparándas Unigéniti tui vias : ut per ejus advéntum purificátis tibi méntibus servíre mereámur : Qui tecum vivit et regnat.

Let us pray.

Stir up, O Lord, our hearts to make ready the way for thine Only-Begotten, that through his coming we may be worthy to serve thee with purified minds.

Who livest and reignest.

This Collect is now used for the Thursday of the 2nd Week of Advent in the Missal of Pope Paul VI. However it can also be traced to the Gelasian Sacramentary.

Numerous allusions appear in the Liturgy of this day to Jerusalem and her people. Let us be filled with sentiments of hope and of joy, for the coming of Jesus is nigh. Let us prepare the way in our hearts for the Messiah: Our Lord and Redeemer Jesus Christ.
